A Kuchipudi Dance Drama · Marathi Poetry

Jaanakiyan

A story as old as time — told in a voice the epic forgot to hear.

The Ramayana, danced through a different perspective: Jaanaki's own.

The Story

The epic, heard from inside the fire

For many audiences, Sita is remembered through silence, obedience and exile. Jaanakiyan shifts the center of gravity. Jaanaki questions, remembers, chooses and survives. Through Kuchipudi, Marathi poetry and music, the performance gives Seeta a voice that is tender, fierce and impossible to ignore.

"Don't marry your daughter to any man from Ayodhya."

A different perspective

The Ramayana told from Jaanaki's vantage — her questions, her grief, her clarity.
